I am looking for a cj 5 hardtop around NC.

It would need to fit a 1979.

I found a cj7 fiberglass top for $50, is it possible to customize this to fit a cj 5?

    If so, How??

    thank you for the help

    Misty,

There is no practical way to make a CJ7 top fit a 5. The CJ7 is about a foot longer in the body tub.

There was an outfit making fiberglas tops for CJ5's, I think they were located in the Carolinas, but not sure if they are still in business.

Check for a local Jeep or 4x4 club in your area or state. If you find one, watch their forum for stuff for sale or post your want. You never know.

A guy I work with cut down a CJ 7 top. He shortened it up in the center of the rear windows. He also had to make some sort of riser plate to bolt to the tub for the top to sit on because od the windshield height. He said it was alot of work.

Without hard doors, a hard top is not quite the find you may think... and making '7 doors fit a '5 is NOT practical. Period.

    Keep looking and good luck.

Oh man I wish I could do that. I had to settle for the Meyer metal one, but it looks good. I see many around here, just over the NC/TN line in Hampton.
