The regular looking wheel is on the back, the other with the 4 holes set out from the center is on the front. A local transmission shop said the front ones were for mounting some kind of drive/thingy to power tools or equipment. Don't know if it's true but I like the story.

Funny the tires are all the same size and tread but different names. Size is 7.00x15 LT, 6 ply, load range C, and measure about 30" tall. Names are "Hurcules Hercumile, Remington Universal Traction, Super Road Service, and the last has no name.

It looks like the rims are 8" judging how the 7" wide tire bulges out towards the center.

They are remarkably close to those on my old Cub Cadet...a little bigger.

There used to be this set up that bolted to the wheel, just a drum sorta thing reallt, that was used to pull yourself out of a stuck situation. The spinning wheel reeled in the rope or cable onto the drum thingy and pulled you forward. Don't know that this has anything to do with your wheels or not as I don't know any specifics. Sorry if any of the technical lingo threw ya off.:)

those Herc tires as I remember it are damn near bomb proof. Self sealing puncture resistant I have personally witnessed 15 nails come out of one on a construction site, the rims I don't know about but you are right it makes for a good story.

Those are definately "home built" specials. The front 2 are some sort of ag/industrial center and the rears look like old Ford Pickup, probably 2wd the the center bore lathed out to clearthe front hub diameter.

The rims are all similar enough (probably 8") to believe they were put together at the same time from available parts, but no wheel with those center discs was ever factory made wider that 5-6".

Looks like they swept out the tire warehouse to put that set together. Hercules and Remington are both private lable brands (probably the other two as well, especially if the tread design is identical) made by Kelly Springfield back in the day.

Looks like they are running tubes as well. Won't be puncture resistant with those inside, and they could be there because the home made wheels wont hold tubless.

I have a wheel like this one for a spare. Mine is not as wide. Guy at the tire store agreed with me that it's probably an impliment wheel. Works though.

They ride like they're bomb-proof, feel like solid rubber on the road. I'm dreading the day one of them goes. Hopefully the timing will be right to replace all 4 and figure out a rim at the same time. At first it bugged me they didn't match, but now I kind of like it. Judging by all the wheel weights I doubt they're even close to balanced...or should be for that matter.

Maybe I could rig it to run a giant margarita machine! If not I could run a shaft off the back of the pto for it. Hmmm.

Actually a friend suggested a 90 degree gear box behind the pto so a shaft could run straight up through the floor, to power a big over-head propellor. Anyone else think of this?

could those matching treads on differnt casings be retreads? If so keep an eye on your steering tires for seperation at the tread on old tires like those. Looks very retro.

There was a Willy's on ebay awhile back with a log splitter attachment that was mounted on the rim. It worked as a screw and split the log by screwing into it. Looks very simliar to the rim used for the log splitter attachment.

Those tires look like retreads. If you look at them closely, you can see the joint on the sidewall.

Those front rims look just like the rims that were on my dads John Deere model 40 tractor. As far as retreads, they could be but I'm also old enough to remember that alot of bias ply tires were not made like radials and many of them have a seam around the edge there, I have also worked on tire molds before and alot of them had the seam there due to the molding process and how the machine ejects the carcus once its molded.
And as far as having the center bored out like mentioned in a previous post Ford truck rims already have the large hole in them that will clear the front hub at least most of them I am familiar with.
