Parts for 258 six...

Hi,
well after 31 years and about 300,000 miles, my 258 six is starting to show its age. The lifters clack, the rings are pretty worn... still runs good and no knocks tho! But I'd like to rebuild it here pretty soon and was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get parts for the 258 six.

They have alot of I6 stuff.

 

Where are you going to have the machining done? That's probably your best source. At 300K, you're going to need an overbore and new pistons. The shop can measure the bores for you and get the right parts, probably 30-over pistons.

Do you want to change anything while the engine is apart? You might want to boost the compression ratio a little bit, or buy an aftermarket cam.

 

Hey there, I have a 258 that was just recently pulled from my 77 cj5. I recently have swapped to a 304. Not sure where you live but I am 30 min north of Atlanta, GA. The engine was running abosultely perfect but now I think a bearing has gone bad on the cam. Anyway, I will let it go for dirt cheap or until I have the time to get it back up and running to sell later on. T.
