I'm trying to remove the pulley from my power steering pump, but am having one heck of a time doing it. The pulley has a hex hole in the center and I have been working at it with an allen wrench with no success. In an interest in time, does anyone have any tips or tricks to getting the pulley off? I've got a Rubicon trip planned for Friday, so I need to get my steering working ASAP.

There's a special tool to pull it off, I got mine at a parts store for $20 I think.

Try your local NAPA store many have tools that they rent out for the job. They charge you for the tool then refund the money if you bring it back in less than 10 days.

If you mean a small hex hole for a set screw on the pulley housing - to lock the pulley to the PS pump shaft, drill it out & use a puller. While you have the pulley off, you can retap it for a slightly larger setscrew if necessary. I would have sprayed the shafts & setscrew hole w/WD40 or dripped machine oil on them for about 3 days prior to the disassembly.
Just my 2 cents (manual steerer).

Thanks guys for all your advice. I spent a good hour and a half messing around with the allen wrench hole, trying to "loosen" the pulley wheel. I then tried pulling the wheel off with a regular puller, but that just bent the wheel. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get the stupid thing off.... hopefully...

As mentioned above there is a special "PS pump pulley" tool that is very simple, once you see it in action you will kind of get the DUH feeling..

Get it pulled w/the proper tool, then you can sit down w/a pumpkin jack or press and take your time streightening it out if you want. I've straigtened out worse items.

When installing a new pulley, does one simply press or tap it on the the pump shaft until it seats?? Any hardware to hold it on, or simply a press fit??

    Thanks, Jim

special re-install tool to put it back
    it's just a press fit
just watch how far you go
then re-check your alignment with the other pulleys on the engine
it really is very simple with the right tools
I'm not berating you if you don't have access to them
