My recently running CJ 5 1969 has a transmission that looks to me like a mid 60's chevy 4 speed. It has a flat plate top and what I think is a hurst shifter on the left side.
The tag numbers are: 300146-10; 947384
    Any ideas?

Novak used to sell an adapter and shifter for the Chevy 4 speed to D18. I had one in a Willys Wagon once. It was just as you described. Does your adapter say 'Novak' on it anywhere?

Try googling "muncie transmission identification" and "borg-warner transmission identification". There's lots of information on identifying the various passenger car and truck transmissions on several web sites.

Thanks. The adapter is between the trans and transfer. The problem is it has been ground flush with the trans case to. For various reasons I have suspected this CJ had a V-8 in it at one time then the 225 was put back in to sell the jeep. It has tons of bells and whistles like someone really did a lot of mods to it.

I just pulled a Muncie 4 speed out of one of my jeeps with a Novak adaptor to the D18. I'll run the numbers when I get home tonight to see if it's a match.

If'n I had to guess I would say T-10? Based on the side mounted shifter and all.. Novak had an adapter for that one..
