M38a1 Seats In A Early Cj5

    Will M38a1 seats fit in an early 5?

    They will fit, but are smaller pads and less "plush." Okay by me, however.

    Some issues that come to mind
    If you're talking back seat, you will need the support brackets and hardware. Those are unique to M38a1 but easily obtained and can be retrofitted to the CJ5 tub
    Front passenger seat is also a little different. At least the later early 5s don't have the large flat spring that holds down the rear of the seat on its pivot. The tub has some amount of supportive bracket for this spring which I believe is absent on later 5s. I'm sure it's nothing that can't be fabricated. Honestly I don't remember how earlier year early 5s do that.
    As others have said the tub is the same dimensions and the seats are the correct size

    On mine I had to drill the last hole in the line of adjustment holes in the tub on the driver's side. That's where the frame wanted to sit & make the other holes line up. The hole was there on the top but the underlying metal was not drilled.

    The M38A1 seats are less "plush" as Pete mentions, but they serve the purpose well and I think give a little more room between belly and steering wheel.
