Is it possible to remove a carter yf from the 134 without taking off the valve cover to access that nut?

I am unsure what you mean by "that nut".

There are only two nuts to remove and they are at the base of the carburetor. Nothing under the valve cover has anything to do with the carburetor.

Yes. Take a torch and bend an old box-end wrench. Weld on an extended handle at the top if you like.

Keep the wrench in a toolbox marked "F-head Jeep"

    You are kind of right.
True that Nothing under the valve cover has anything to do with the carburetor.
"that nut" that I am talking about that is between the carb and valve cover is effectively impossible to remove unless you remove the valve cover. I was hoping someone had come up with something over the years to overcome this issue, and I like Pete's suggestion.

I bought a tiny (3 inch) adjustable wrench for like $2 at my local FLAPS and it fits in there easily. that nut shouldnt be very tight so you just need to find a little wrench and catch the nut just enough to get it going. then use figers. The wrench doesnt even need to be horizontal to the nut. Same with reinstall. doesnt need much more than finger tight to seal the gasket as long as both nuts are even.

I've managed it with a socket & extension but it has to be a really cheap sloppy old worn out socket & extension.

I have had mine off several times without removing the valve cover. As Pete says, you can bend an old wrench to get in there, it is still a bit like eating pudding with a knitting needle, as you won't have a lot of room to turn it, but it beats removing the valve cover.

It is slow, but the bent wrench really works perfectly. I'd have thought that everyone on this forum would have one.

Look on eBay. SnapOn made one years ago. I have two and would not be without either. Only the YS carbs I work on need a straight open-end 9/16. Carb Wrench.jpg

I have an old craftsman carb wrenches from when I was much younger that I used to take mine off. Did not think much about the nut hiding. Lol

I am not sure of the brand of the one I have, but it was from a very old set of wrenches my father called "distributor wrenches". I also have one I bent myself for some other hard to get at nut.

Now I'm perplexed....went to pick up my fc to tow it home, and I figured what the heck, I'll try to start it. And it fired right up. Shut it off and turned it on several times, drove it the 6 miles to my house, Shut it off and started it up several times again, no issues.

So, from the beginning, I guess. I drove to my friends house, about 8 miles away, parked, and hung out for about an hour. Time to go, the jeep would not start. Engine would crank over but not fire up. Plenty of spark at the coil to the distributor, wife pushed on the gas pedal and I could see gas shooting down the carb. So I took a small cap full of gas, poured it down the carb, and it just leaked out all over the place. Let it sit until this morning, was gonna pull the carb and send to @scoutpilot but it runs fine now. I'm putting a new fuel filter in it, but it's starts and stops and I can repeat it all morning. No leaky gas, nothing. Just a fine running FC

Or maybe the float just stuck? Do you put SeaFoam and Stabil in your gas?
