Dana 18 Shift Fork Set Screw

Getting ready to reassemble the Dana 18. When I pulled it apart I found that the set screw on the front wheel drive fork is not the stock screw with safety wire, but an allen set screw. Thoughts on reusing the allen set screw with locktite or ordering the stock screw and safety wire.

I would use the correct one. I am sure I have one I can send you for price of postage, but I will be in WV until next Monday so can't send it until then. If you want one PM your name and address.

 

It seems like a running change. My newer large hole transfer case from a '71 has the allen socket set screws while the twin stick rails (and nose) I put on it had the older square head screws with lock wire.

I used the allen screws with red locktite when I put it all back together.

 

I'd be good with locktite..

I also have seen both types used.

 

I have never owned a Jeep as new as a 71, so that is probably why I have never seen the Allen set screws in one.

 

That is what I use too. Never had one come loose.
