Just went out to take pics. The bracket measurements are
    1 1/2” x 2 1/8”
The short leg mounts to the windshield frame with 2 small Philips screws
Both the long leg and short leg have an angle cut at 45 degrees an 1” down from the top of the bracket, as seen in pics
The hole is 1 9/16” from inside the bracket to centre
    The hole diameter is 5/16”
The 2 mountings holes for the Philips screws are on 15/16” centre

Which bracket and soft top? The various soft top manufacturers have different methods of attaching the over-door rods to the windshield frame, from variations of the above post to just the hole in the frame-also present above. The door and windshield tracks can also vary. Most windshield frames I'm familiar with come with that top track but they are also available in the aftermarket.

I have seen "eye bolts" used in place of the brackets, but the brackets wouldn't be hard to make.

Beach66bum, which top uses those brackets pictured? My windshield has those and was going to remove them and weld the holes. Or do they serve some great cj5 purpose?

They serve the purpose of an anchor for the rod that goes from windshield to the forward top bow.

Fits the top I ordered from Beachwood. Expensive but trying to get it right. He had a picture of it looking in from the outside but not good enough to see it all. I would have been guessing.

Love forums like this. I joined the wooden canoe heritage club when I was restoring my grandfathers 1920 Old Town. The knowledge, experience and comradely were tremendous. Looks like the same here.

The early Whitco soft tops used those mounting brackets. The later Bestop soft tops do not!
