Hello all, for those that have done a Duraspark conversion, I am looking for the female side of this connector.
It seems the ones that I see photos of have the locking ribs (?) in the wrong direction. They seem to go sideways instead of up and down as oriented in the picture.
I have been doing some reading on Duraspark I and II and there were issues with the I version so it was short lived. I assume they are talking about just the ignition module itself and not the distributor. Those seem to be the same for either version. I'm still on the fence about whether to get a Motorcraft ignition module or just use a GM HEI type module, which I already have. I know heat-sinking on both is critical and to be honest, I have been considering just scrapping the electronic ignition idea and just going back to points. I have a tach/dwell meter and have set points many times and they have never failed. I don't know, just some ideas. My engine came with a knock-off GM HEI and it's an easy one wire hookup but it's just too big and barely fits with the fuel line running right next to it. I know Painless makes a wiring harness for this but I find their stuff to be a little on the high side. I'm a long time electronics tech so doing my own connectors and wiring is a normal day. duraspark connector.jpg
If anyone has a source on this connector or any other thoughts on the electronic ignition topic I would like to hear it, thanks.

I think I would just snip both sides off and install a weathertite or similar style.

For about $26.00 on Amazon you can get a whole kit with several connectors, 1 to 6 wire and the pins. Just search waterproof connectors.

You could go back to a points style distributor, and install a Pertronix kit. Smaller distributor, and no more changing points.

Yea I looked at those. The pin configuration is the same but the tabs on the side are in the wrong place. They should be on the top and bottom instead to fit the connector I have. I did some searching online and have seen comments that folks have had trouble finding the right connector. It seems odd because that Ford/Motorcraft ignition system is a very common setup.
The easiest thing to do would be just to cut off what I have and make up whatever 3 conductor setup that I want. Thanks for the input.

Good catch. You could look into finding an additional replacement and changing both sides of the connection, or maybe sand off the tabs and zip tie the plug together. Not ideal however...
