76 Cj5 Down Pipe

I am looking for a source for the exhaust down pipe that attaches to the exhaust manifold. I can not find one for a 76 CJ5 with the 258 six. Mine has been cut and welded so many times that there is not more than 2 inches of clear pipe.

Have you tried an exhaust shop since you can not find?

I have not. I don't have an exhaust shop within 50 miles. I cant seem to find one for any CJ model in that time frame. I would even be happy with a used one if anyone has one without a weld every 2 inches.

There are lots of jeep salvage yards around the country if you shop, I would think one of those would be available some where. A lot more jeeps were built with the standard straight 6 than the optional 304 V-8's.
On a side note I would really like to find a factory set of lead-off pipes for my 74, 304 intermediate. If you find a used one for your jeep, post the location for me.

My 78 CJ7 worked with a modified later model 258 downpipe. I had to pinch off the air injection tube and trim it down to a 45 degree bend instead of the bend that came on it. I also run a later model 80's exhaust manifold which should dump right around the same as your manifold. My pipe came from an 86 I believe - can easily find online cheap.

If this means anything, I installed an exhaust manifold from an 1983 258 to my 74 and it bolted right up to my down pipe, minus the pipe to manifold gasket. I would say a newer model year down pipe "should fit".

The issue I had with newer year downpipe (but on a 78 CJ7 so totally different animal) was the downpipe would bolt up but the angle was shooting the pipe totally wrong - easy fix with some cuts.

Maybe a local mechanic who builds hot rods, or something like that. I have a one-man repair shop nearby where he will bend or weld any exhaust part.

I just have to listen to him telling me, in four letter words, what crap vehicles I drive, but he does that to everyone - it's good entertainment.
