Changing the brake fluid? A common thing, as I recall. Isn't it on the service schedule for every car? I recall it's about long-tern exposure to the air changes the characteristics of the fluid.

BTDT. Looking at plugs after wire brushing, the ceramic seems to be colored by the brush wires. No evidence, but that seems undesirable.

Yes, Brake Fluid has a service life, just like any other fluid, and it's shorter than you think it is.

Do most people ever bother flushing and refilling? Nope. And in most cases, for basic passenger duty, you're *probably* going to be ok until you trade a new vehicle off, if you're like most Americans.

I don't do it as often as I *should* but I do flush my rigs and refill them with fresh fluid more often than most.

DOT 3 and 4 brake fluid (the most common) is hydroscopic. It absorbs moisture right out of the air and promotes corrosion internally in the brake hydraulic system. There are test strips that can be purchased by the consumer at most parts stores to test their brake fluid for moisture. If the fluid is discolored from the norm it should be flushed and replaced in any case.

I got a code on the JK-miss fire on #6, at about 40k. That plug had about half the ground burned off and we won't mention that you have to tear half the engine apart to change the plugs in that anemic engine. But maybe that happened because I have absolutely no love for that POS.

And I just saw a several year old JK listed here for $50K...

My YJ was $13K brand new. (And I can change out all the plugs in five minutes.)

You are correct but It’s used either way depending on what resource you use.
