I need to attach these V8 badges again to the painted tub. They are the originals and pretty heavy. Any suggestions or thoughts on what has worked well and is “permanent?” I see there are glue and double-sided tape options. Also, do I need to roughen up the surface? I don’t want them to fall off and get lost. I really like them and have never attached a metal one before, especially something heavy like this. It’s not some cheap plastic badge or emblem like many modern cars have.

I used 3M tape for my metal v6 emblems, that was many years ago and they're still on.

I own a body shop and we use the 3M double tape for emblems and mouldings. You don’t need to scuff the paint. Be sure to clean the area first with grease & wax remover or rubbing alcohol. I would put them on in a warm shop & let them sit for 24 hrs or so. Put a few pieces of masking tape on the outside of them to tape them to the vehicle if you want to make sure they’ll stick & take that off the next day.

I have used 3M tape as well with various body emblems. Never lost one. Alcohol prep, no scuffing. Tape in place overnight.
