What should I set my toe in at?
Stock front axle, 2.5" BDS springs, Mcruff's 4° caster shims, 33x10.50R15 tires.

I think 1/16" to 3/32" was in the FSM, but 1/8" wouldn't scare me.

I was never good enough with the string method to get it much better than 1/8"

I'm getting done in the shop where I work so it's an actual alignment machine.

I always did my own cause I'm frugal. Worked great for me. It can be a bit time consuming though.

Doesn't it say in the FSM to make the front straight with the rear and turn the tie rod ends in a quarter turn each? Seams to me I read that some where, not sure about quarter turn but something like that. Good Luck.

1/8" has always worked for me and yes you do need to align front to rear so fronts are pointed straight ahead and roll back and forth a bit to settle things in.scripe a line in center of tread best you can with sharp screwdriverand measure from that pointside to side. The above post may be to get you close for a starting point. Don't really know. mike

I always raised the tires off the ground and marked the center line with chalk. Set the toe at 1/8" with a string. Set back on the ground, roll forward and back a few times. Repeat step one multiple times.

This kind of modern equipment displays lots of precision, which looks good on the readout. I always wonder if that translates to accuracy.

I once paid a shop to align my steering - then found a tie rod end that had about 1/4" play in it.

Remember the Hubble Telescope? Extreme precision, but made to the totally wrong spec.

Ive done that before. Usually shake down the front end first but have started and you just cant get things to stay in spec. Then found something like a loose ball joint or tierod.

I did mine a couple years ago mostly to check the caster angle. Darn steering wheel is off center though:rofl:

I got a van back from alignment with the steering wheel off-center. When I complained they told me it was "the frame of the van was crooked."

I had to explain to them why that is horse-puckey - that no matter how f-ed up the frame might be, the wheel could be centered.
