So, there are many things I don’t know about my Jeep. One of them is the lift that’s on it. I’ve done lots of reading and researching suspensions over the past week, and I plan on getting underneath today to assess what’s going on.

The reason...she leans to the passenger side a bit, and I’d like to fix it. So, I’m going to inspect the springs and shackles and such.

But my question is, how can I determine the amount of lift she has?

I’ve already looked into new springs and shocks figuring this is probably why she leans. I know it can be other things too, as I’ve read every post and thread about Jeep lean that exist it seems.

The reason I care about the current lift as she sits is I think she looks about perfect the way she is...sans the lean. She could go up an inch...max, but not down. So if I end up buying a new lift kit, I’d like the same that she has.

    Hey Tim,

Yeah, I literally read everything on this site on the subject, and I know it may be unfixable. But I’m a persistent fellow. I’ll do what I can.

It’s 1 1/2” lower on the passenger side. If I lift up on it after it’s parked, it’s 1/2” different. I’ll have a better idea and more info after I lay underneath it for a while.

By the way, I love your avatar!!

Okay, I checked stuff...even though I don’t really know what exactly it is I’m looking for. Things seem to be in decent order. I think.

You may be able to correct the lean by swapping the springs from left to right (although this may only be a temporary fix).

I’d also recommend checking the spring bushings on the leafs and frame. One of mine was completely rotted out, resulting in about a 1” sag on that side.

This Jeep is '76 or later. Year, model, equipment? You should put this info in your signature file or in each post. It's not in your profile either.

Looks ok to me. Pretty clean. Front u-bolts are kinda long. Aftermarket (longer?) front shackles. Lots of different companies make springs for these Jeeps, more than for the earlier models.

    Yes sorry. It’s ‘77 CJ5, 304, 3 Speed.

I honestly don’t know many more details. We are still in the getting acquainted phase. I don’t know much about Jeeps yet. I fell in love and had to have her. I had a ‘95 YJ back in the day...but I always wanted a CJ.

If anyone can tell what I have suspension wise, transfer case...etc...I’m still trying to figure it all out.

I will look at the bushings. I ran out of allowance to add pictures. I have some of the motor mounts and I’ll get some of the bushings and post them at next possible allowed time.

There is a '77 TSM free for you to read and download at the Tom Collins site: Jeep® Parts Manuals online

Tremec T-150 transmission. It's a Ford passenger car 3-speed built on license for Jeep by Tremec. Dana 20 transfer case. Dana 30 front axle. '77 was the first year for optional front disk brakes. AMC Corporate 20 rear axle. 3.54 axles are standard, 4.10 optional.

Thanks man. I ordered a hard original copy of a ‘77 TSM. I’m just not sure how much of the stuff on my Jeep is original, being 44 years old. I appreciate your knowledge.
