Thanks for checking! I really appreciate it. The might be a viable solution there without too much work.

In the event of flat towing, I'd just use a set of caps to bolt to the end of the wheel hub. I think large trucks are towed like that.

It’s not that hard I did my d30 spindles to fit the 27 spline axle shaft I took out around a 1/16 of an inch with a half a dozen 40 grit flap wheels and a die grinder it was time consuming but worked if I would have done my homework I would have had Mcruff do it when he machined them to fit my tapered axle 44.

So reading all this thread. I see a few options. Oldtimr mentioned Herm’s flanged/full floating axles 19 spline. I was curious about those myself and thought about getting them and changing my ratio to 4.27 instead of 5.38 for my country roads I’d like a better gearing than 5.38. But my other question is site width.. I have both rims 15x8 and 15x10.5 not sure which to use. With 33” tires AT. So in conclusion are the herms FF 19 spline worth it over stock and tire width. I assume the 30 spine won’t fit into original d44 carrier so that’s why I mentioned 19spline

For me, yes. I was tired of crawling under the jeep in the stickers to connect/disconnect the driveshaft to flat tow. Short of that, and my inability to store a trailer at my house, I don't think they would be worth it.
I have broken one of the axles, so I wouldn't do it for strength. Yeah you can still drive off the trail, but for the money I assume you could build a flanged stronger so it didn't break in the first place.
The locking hubs are constantly getting lose and shearing bolts/studs/etc, so I wouldn't do it for reliability (my warn hubs click in the rear...does anyone else's do that?)

Yea I want to get rid of the two piece axle and running 33x12.5x15 tires but can’t decide to keep 33x10.5x15 or go with the wider tire. My only thought was the axles. That’s why I ask about Herms flanged axle kit for d44 and drop to 4.27 or even 4.10 if I can. Just wondering about the kits.

The previous owner of my CJ did a full float kit I bet at least 25 years ago. I have never had a problem with it.

what if you got a set of custom axleshafts that are flanged on the end and bolt on to the hub? you could use jeep hubs, and go to whatever diameter would fit through your spindle of choice. it would be fairly easy for the custom axle manufacturers to make, just sized down. no outer splines to worry about.

Unless you have a very odd build (lots of rear weight or something) or you plan to flat tow often, I’m just not sold on FF for an application this light with a stock axle this strong.

What is under the hood? 225? 19 spline full float axles will handle 33's, or at least mine did for 15 years behind the 381 sbc and 4.10 gears. It comes down more to driving style than anything else.

I put the 33-12.5's on 8" rims. I like a little sidewall sticking past the rim, especially with tires like BFG KM's with decent sidewalls and the rand next to the rim. Cuts down the rock rash a bit.

Yes 225 oddy with 4bbl Holley and headers. I have Mickey Thompson’s rims now with old 35x12.5 but want to go with 32/33 x12.5x15 just wasn’t sure with road driving which will be main driving conditions (but not daily driver) some highway driving so I thought 4.27 or even 4.10 gearing with t90/d18 transmission and TC.
