I had parking brake cables on one jeep and they were stick magnets. I was glad when I finally swapped the D20 out for a D18 and fixed that issue and the funky driveshaft angle.

Here is another idea. The parking brake for an M38A1 seems to be a lot smaller than the civilian version. Does anyone know how well they worked?

 

I can attest to the band-style brake on my old ford... if it’s adjusted tightly enough to actually work when you need it, it’s dragging when not used and wearing the pads down to the point of being useless when you actually do go to use it.
I hope the jeep versions were better.

 

I used to drive an A1 years back, and the parking brake was close to useless. This may have been because of the condition was pretty poor to start with. It had the same gear oil leaking issues that the later drums have.

I've been thinking, for years, about replacing the drum with a disc, like a brake rotor, and devising something like a park pin in an AT to serve as a parking brake.

 

I ended up ditching the original parking brake on the transfer case and since I had 11” drums on the rear, I got those hooked up. I used a foot pedal assembly from a Wrangler YJ and the cables for an intermediate CJ. I like it a lot, no regrets.

 

I was trying to decide what to do about the ebrake as well and decided to go this route Electric Emergency Brake ( EEBrake ) Rear Bracket Kit, 41-75+ Jeep

For the price Ii feel it will be hard to beat and discs are so much easier. I'm cleaning up and rebuilding/regearing the axle now. I should have it installed with brakes first week or 2 of January.

 

I just found this post after posting a similar question about trying to add an emergency brake to my 11 in drums. Having a hard time finding pictures of the routing of cables, parts, etc needed to make this happen. I did see some discussion that the cable length is an issue since there really especially when deciding between and pedal and pull lever for brakes. Some under the dash some between the seats. Anyone that has accomplished this, i would appreciate any pictures, links etc. to help me along. Thank you.
