Need Help Today. Brake Y Fitting Stripped And Bringing Jeep To A New Home. Need Another One..

    Hi Guys,
    I stripped the last of my y fittings. Locally no one has them.
    Is there another work around that an autozone or another distributor has them?
    My plan was to trailer up the jeep tomorrow to its new home in the country.
    I am near NJ.

    If I can't get that part today, is there another way to upgrade to a dual master cylinder that I can get today?

    Maybe I'm missing something here.
    I don't see working brakes as an issue if you're trailering the Jeep to another location.

    Any repair shop near you that you could ask if they might happen to have that fitting?

    Coudn't source any in time. But he is trying a single line from the master cylinder to a t.

    I am not sure about the later cj single res systems, but on the 58 wagon that Y-fitting has 2 different size lines going out of it: a smaller (1/4"?) line that goes directly to the LF, and then the normal (5/16?") that goes around to the rest of the system....not hard to work around, but something to be aware of and check? Would mean finding the right T-block with different size ports....

    If it's a Crown part, the Crown warehouse in Canton MA may have it or know where you could get it more locally. They only sell direct in-state, but Quadratec is their biggest account for Crown stuff. If the warehouse has it, maybe you could buy it through Quadratec and the warehouse could drop-ship it to you overnight.

    Another source might be Inline Tube Inline Tube | Preformed Lines, Brake Products, DIY & Restoration Parts You'd have to tell them exactly what you want, since they won't have it by the Jeep PN A557.

    Several places have it by the Jeep PN: Jeep A557 - Bing Likely any of these places will ship it to you overnight if they have stock and you are willing to pay the shipping cost.

    Thanks for the information. Are the y fittings normally so soft? I went throught 4 of them and stripped them all.
    Does one manufacture have a better one?

    4 of them? You sure something isn't metric? Like the brake line fitting maybe?

    If the question was addressed to me, I have no idea. The oldest Jeep I've owned was a 1973, and I bought that new.

    Since new brake lines can be bought at parts stores in both s.a.e. and metric maybe metric got inadvertently used?

    Some of the new stuff, fittings and such isn't real great in the quality department so it could just be simply junk fittings, can't argue that fact.

    There are both metric and SAE fittings that use the same common 3/16" brake tubing. Very close. All of the replacement tubing on my VW is nominally of fractional dimension (3/16" OD). The nuts are metric thread though.

    When did the Y get stripped? Was it ok until you tightened it? Did it go together easy or kind of hard to screw together?
