Ha Scout T18. I do believe Novaks says it is the least desirable and hardest to install. So this machinist friend of mine was helping a friend install a 4 spd. Yeah it was a Scout T18. Another friend told him how it was a bad idea. Well Mr. machinist took umbrage and yup, installed it.. But not without a lot of fab work.. Just to show us he could do it.

All this excellent content from Nick and others is interesting to me, and fortunately (for me) does not contradict any of the comments I made earlier in the thread.

It does seem like we've gone quite far away from the OP's original concern. The OP (original poster) wanted to install a T-18 in his 232 or 258 equipped Jeep. Apparently he contacted Novak and they sold him a close-ratio T-18 that was represented the same as the T-18 his Jeep would have had from the factory.

Finding he could not buy the original 4-speed mounting parts, he proceeded to fab them based on parts borrowed from another Jeep. Now, I looked at this and thought "this new transmission is going to be nearly 2" shorter than the transmission in the Jeep he is copying." I believe this is correct.

The earlier comment from dsrt4 seems most relevant here. He installed this same length combo and it sat down on top of the crossmember without any fancy mount bracket extending from the rear of the crossmember.

    Ok well:
I spent four days fabricating brackets i did not need. The set up from Novak fits up with the D-20 adapter plate directly over the cross member. That calls for some wine tonight (so depressing). but any way, here are the pics of the install. I think it should work. I have to still rebuild the D-20 and fit it up and see how all the torque arms align. also I don't know where the twin stick kit will end up.
The exhaust bracket that I fabricated exactly to the original specs, would not line up with the Adapter plate holes, so I left it out and will figure something else out

    Thank you Tim:
I would still be fabricating the other brackets had you not spurred on the measuring of the bell housings.
