Hey all, I have the transmission/transfer case out of the jeep. The trans sm420, is getting replaced. I noticed the large gear had some wear, and the bearing noise. The PO ran wrong oil, looked way too thin

    So, on the dana 20.

I'd like to re seal it while everything is out

Does it have to be taken completely apart?

    Thanks,
    Chris

It would be hard to get new gaskets on without pulling everything apart and if you went the gasket maker route it would be hard to clean all of the old gasket material and gear oil from the mating surfaces. Not saying it can’t work but I just think it would be difficult.

Thanks Lilbuff. Yeah, I'm thinking that removing the yoke, and bottom I can get most of it. It doesn't really leak much, but since it's out i'd like to re-seal.
