What Are These Frame Braces?

    Hello All,
I am working on blending two cj5's. The frame is from a 1956 and I also have a 1955. I am installing a Chevy 4.3 v6 and power steering. I removed these braces from the 56' frame. They are in the way of PS (reverse Ford) and reduce the wheel travel on tight turns. Anyone know what these are for? They are also on the 55' frame, but slightly smaller and the plow brackets are mounted to them. This area of the frame is already boxed and is the strongest part of the frame. I am curious why they were put there from the factory.
Has anyone installed the reverse ford PS setup from Herm the Overdrive guy? I bought his bracket, but am still not sure it's going to fit with the v6 and clearance to the radiator and grill. Thanks in advance.
I don't seem to be able to upload photos. How do I turn this function on? It says uploads not available when I try to drop in images.

Lots of folks have the Herm kit with V6. But maybe not the 4.3 your using.
Look for the topic “ post your power steering photos here” I looked but couldn’t find it.

I have a Herm kit in my v6 here. Scott's '66 Make It Driveable Build.

Not sure what you refer to, but recall the the first CJ5s carried over a bunch of DNA from the military M38A1 features. For instance, I'm thinking of the tie-down loops the GI jeeps had near the front of the frame.

Or are you looking at after-market snowplow mounts? Back in the day Jeeps were much sought out for plow duty.

OK here are the photos. Blue jeep is the 55' and bracket on tire is the 56' frame. Has anyone with a early short frame cj5 used Herm's PS conversion?
    Thanks

PS box would have to fit in this tiny little area. Circled.

Okay, I looked at your media page, found the pics.

Everything I see there is associated with mounting a snow plow. Hellish strong and well built compared to some others I've seen, but not sure that would have been a factory item.

Okay, That's good. The brackets are in the way for the new V6 going in. The frame is boxed well in this area. The 55' has had a plow on it since 1967, but I do not know the history of this 56'
To my other other question, I have searched for others using Herm's PS conversion. All that I can find are later CJ5's during the 225 v6 era. I know the nose is longer in those versions. Well, when I get the new drive train mocked up in place, hopefully can determine if Herm's kit will work. Plan B is to go with a Saginaw PS conversion. I already have a column from a mid era CJ5.
    Thanks,
    Cameron

The V6 was from 66-71, and the longer nose didn’t start till 72 with the intro of the straight 6.
