Warn Overdrive Stuck In Tc

I'm trying to remove the main housing of my warn overdrive from my TC and it seems to be stuck. Any thoughts on how to gently get this thing out? everything spins freely and I can shift the overdrive.

I got it this far apart with some hard wood wedges but afraid I might be doing damage?

 

Make sure transfer case and transmission is in neutral

What usually causes this is installing the OD too far into the D18 housing. You do need the gasket or the pilot on the overdrive bottoms out and gets mushroomed a bit on the end. The wood wedges should not hurt it. Just try to keep it square while driving those.

 

got it, a little more persuading with the wedges and it came apart everything looks normal. I thought these had three planetary gears?

 

Warn had 4 which makes them a little gooder and more forgiving to things like towing and burnouts and towing and plowing snow and pulling small trailers like a m416 or pop-up camper with 5.38s in the axles and being able to have just the right gear.

 

I've never seen one with only 2 planetaries. My Warn units have 4 gears. One of the other brands (Husky?) has 3 planetaries.
Did someone assemble your overdrive leaving 2 out?

Warn went to only two planetaries late in their production. Cheapened their product a little bit.
