    Well,
I put my timing cover back on the old 225, however I forgot to pack the oil pump with petroleum jelly. Can I just insert a flat head driver into the oil pump drive and spin it with a drill like I've done on other motors, or am I screwed? I have an oil pressure guage, I could check to see if I have any pressure while spinning it.

I believe that can be done! I would use a screwdiver with a hunk of fuel hose clamped on it to steady the shaft on te oil shaft. You might have to whirl it pretty good. If it doesnt take, you have two choices. Pack the pump with vasoline, or over fill the crankcase (I have done this in desperation).
    Good luck!

Yea, it'll work. Do put a piece of hose on the end to keep it centered. Regular righthand rotation. You'll feel & hear the drill motor slow under load after 5-10 seconds.

el cheapo 1/2 inch spade drill bit ultra long version. snap off sharp tip and grind to a screwdriver tip. Slide a 1/2" deep socket down it which covers the spade end. Voila! primer tool.

Overfill may be your only option other than taking it apart again

Priming with a tool on the pump shaft and a drill will work fine. You can have someone sit in the seat to verify oil pressure on your dash oil pressure gauge to confirm it.
I have rebuilt several SB Chebby engines and always used that method. Didnt hear about the petro jelly trick untill I got a jeep book. I think its just as important to make sure your filter is full when you install it
In fact, if you used moly assembly lube, or even STP on the friction parts during rebuild, it will be ok.
    The drill method works fine.
