AHHHHH, Crap

    Hey all,

    I'm in the midst of changing out my blown F134 in my 3b. Rebuilt motor
    cleaned and painted everything, and Have the dude dangleing from my
    engine hoist in the engine compartment.

    Went out to the garage tonight to drop that baby back into it's place.
    Got 'er all lined up with trans shaft and started to push her into place.

    As I was taking a break (beer), I started looking into the mounting alignments. and crap, the front engine plate is not the same as the one I removed.

    All my previous F134's have had the front engine plate that has the pass. side bent to the rear, and the drivers side bent 90 deg. to the front. (this 90 deg. bend is where the single hole for the engine mount is).

    This nice, new, painted F134 has a front plate with both sides bent to the rear. It does not match my frame engine mount locations. ****.

    I looked it over a dozen times. They are different for sure.

    Any of you out there ever seen what application this front plate with the
    mount flanges both bent to the rear ?????????

    I'll swith the plates to fix, but damn,damn, damn. if you all know what I mean.

    Rob-

    I hate to say it, but I think your engine plate is from an L-head engine. AFAIK the L-heads all had the ears bent rearward, while the F-heads had one bent to the front of the Jeep as you noted. Sorry dude.

    If it makes you feel any better, I'm not sure I would have picked up on that little detail myself until it was too late. Was this the mounting plate that was on the engine originally? What kind of vehicle did it come out of?

    I think you are correct. I have the original engine over in the corner, so I'll be pulling the plate off this weekend. I checked the old engine my 2A
    had and they are the same. A 2A plate. I can't belive I did not catch it when I took all the parts to the engine builder.

    well, just another excuse to spend the weekend in the shop with a wrench in my hand!!

    The late model L heads (DJ3A and some late CJ3A) had the front/rear configuration, the early L heads were rear/rear.

    Think of this as a learning experience. I betcha you never miss this little land mine again!

    One CJ2a L-head front plate for sale, cheap. Oh, It's painted a real nice Fire Engine Red.

    Will keep my sand paper from blowing off the work bench until sold.
