    Hey Guys,

OK, one of the local places has the Rancho 0-1" kit I'm looking for, but while they tell me I can use the original C shackles, they recommended using the Rancho ones. What are the benefits in swapping these out, and is it worth the extra $50?

    Thanks....

Thad: Never seen the Rancho shackles, but I would recommend changing from the old C shackles. There are many good ones out there. I prefer the greasable ones. The aftermarket ones are usually braced and quite a bit stronger.

    Thad,
Unless you're going for a restoration, I'd go with some aftermarket shackles. Not sure of the cost anymore, but I've been running Con-Fer units since '91 and am extremely pleased. Much stronger for the desert running you probably get into out West...

i run a more shackle thats .75 inches of lift and was wondering if a 1.50 lift is too much? i've found shackles through quadratec that are cheaper than mine only longer.

Remember that a 1/5" extended shackle gives you about 3/4" lift. That is what I have on mine.

    Jim,
The references I've read say that you get half of the increased length of the shackle in lift, i.e. 1.0" extension= 0.5" lift because you're only lifting half of the spring. Are you saying that 0.20" extension will give 0.75" lift? :?

Nope. The 1/5" should have been 1.5". Didn't bother to correct it because I figured everyone would know. Sorry.

OK, yeah, now that I look at it I should have been able to figure that out. I have a set on the bench that I'm making now for a 1/2" lift and got a little of the oh $#!+ factor.

Brad: I believe the stock shackles are 2.75" center to center. So, for a 1/2" (.5") lift they should be 1" longer.

I should have kept all in fractions or decimals in one sentance.
