  1. Havent worked on the jeep much lately... got this thing, and have been practicing. trying to get proficient enough to weld up my intercooler piping... I suck. haha! Im getting better, but its like learning how to weld all over again. It really makes mig welding feel like cheating.

    That's awesome. Truly inspirational.

What's the story with the reverse rotation alternator? How?

  5. THanks! As far as the alternator goes.... I didnt have much room to mount it conventionally but have tons of room in front of the engine so I though why not... It charges either way. The only issue is cooling so I fitted a reverse rotation cooling fan. Plus....I like it because its weird and it bothers some people! haha!

That's crazy. Do they all charge both directions? And where'd you find the fan? A boat engine or something?

    :watch:

Big fan of your builds. (y)

  7. From what I gather most alternators can be run either way. Covairs ran backwards from the factory. You can buy the fan from one of them. Yes, lots of boats run a reverse setup. I made my fan from a spare Mercedes alternator I had laying around. Hammer & vise and lots of patience. haha! It turned out pretty good. Thanks again for checking out my projects!

  13. Thanks! Today I welded in my MAP bung. Then I made a few body fitment adjustments to the fenders and hood. This will be the last time they are mounted before paint. I took a few pictures and now i'm beginning disassembly. The plan is to remove the front end, pull the engine, repair and paint the hole in the firewall.... then I am replacing the timing belt, finish welding all the motor mounts and stuff that I couldnt get to with the engine in place. The I just have to paint the fenders/hood/grill....reassemble everything and hopefully make it move under its own power.

Agree that if this is your first TIG effort doing aluminium then you are killing it.

Love your set up, the engine bay layout looks factory.

  17. Thanks Browncoat: im doing my best to keep the engine bay tidy. Its getting harder each day...Well its out! It felt a little unnatural taking everything apart. It only took an hour to disassemble 3 weeks of work! haha!

(dont worry the oil pan isnt touching the ground)

I started bending up the panels for my doghouse. I welded nuts to the firewall side so I can remove the panel from uner the dash. I also made an opening for the relays and harness for the tdi. The ECU, VNT n75 solenoid, Glow plug relay will all be hidden under the dash.

You're doing better than I did with the neatness.
I plan to finalize the tidying up on mine when it all goes back together.

It's weird, you start of thinking there is heaps of room in the engine bay but very soon you start to run out of space to fit everything you want.

I picked up an intercooler to add to the mix on my one, but only after I had pulled it all apart.
My cooler will be under the bonnet with a little scoop on top to direct the air flow, so that will now need to be modified before the hood gets painted.
