I would think that if you forced the mounts to work...there would be stress on the motor mount and it would fail much sooner. I think you mentioned stress on the pilot bushing in the clutch....I don't think that would be a consideration because the motor and bellhousing are bolted together and I can't see them binding.
I hope I am making sense....I think the only problem would be early motor mount failure.......Just my opinion .... ..... :)

    hello....knock....knock.........
there is a left and right mount
unless someone is making a "universal" fits both sides
    mechanical talent?
you don't need it for this job
    just use the correct mount
    problem solved

I am just concerned that the mount that I bought new from Krage may not work. Wasted $25. The one I have is not marked right or left. I would run out and buy "the correct mount" but I thought I already did. $25 is alot of money to me.......................
I personally don't mean to drag this thread out...

Not sure about the consequences, but it might be tough to put on.

I say that because I just replaced my motor mounts last weekend.
    (did I start this thread?)

The driver side went on no sweat, but the pass side was real tough. Just could not get the holes to line up. My mounts were different part numbers, they looked very simillar. Had to pry the mount with a wrench to get the bolt through. Bit of a balancing act, from the bottom, prying with one hand, then trying to push the bolt through with the other -fun.

Finally, got it though. Not bad for a beginner.

I agree but the subject comes up often enough about using the same mount for both sides that the question deserves to be put to rest. No doubt about the manufacturer's intent but Krage and possibly others are apparently selling one size fits all mounts. The mechanical smarts comes into play when trying to figure out why two sizes were used in the first place. Mudweiserjeep's explanation makes sense to me. If premature wear and tear on the mounts is the only conserquence for using the wrong mounts, then it probably isn't a big deal.

Ok I'll answer this, yes there is definately a difference between the mounts, no I don't think that you could use one side to fit on both sides, the way these mounts are made if you were to draw an imaginary line and placed the mounts on the motor, one mount would lift the motor up about 1/4-3/8" above the other and it would probably not let the mount on the other side line up even with the 1/4" slot for the slop left in for manufacturing.
The mounts are still out of the Jeep, I will measure them for sure this evening and make a little picture to put up. I checked on the block a few minutes ago and the mounting holes in the block scale within about .020 of each other so i'm gonna say there the same, however the frame mounts are quite abit different from one side to another.

Yes these were my original mounts, still in good shape other than gummed up from 34 years of driving.

Oh and when replacing these put the passenger side mount on first as it is a fixed hole and the drivers side has a slot in it with about 1/4" clearance.
Getting good dimensions off my frame is gonna be rough as it has a slight bend here and will not make it to the frame shop for about another 2 weeks.

Jim - Your reply didn't seem "turdish" to me. Sounded like good advice.

Dont know it this is entirely correct, but my notes say:
    Motor Mounts
    1979 Buick with a 231 V6
    part numbers:
    Left 2382
    Right 2384
Dont know if this is Napa numbers or Autozone.

I hope this works, this is a Gif. of the mount, I did a drawing of the left mount and overlayed the dimensions and bolt hole of the right mount, it is measured with a 6" scale it is reasonably accurate. You can see the the cross bolt holes in the mount are off location from each other about 1/2 the hole, maybe even a little more.

    Thanks for the measurements Mike.

I guess I just need to try and make the mount I bought from Krage work.

I measured the mount I bought from Krage. My measurements are as follows: 2.660" which matches your right mount and 0.500" which is closer to your Left mount.

Maybe it is a universal mount. I will post pics and results when I do get it installed if it installs at all.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but it deals with my question. I need a new motor mount for the drivers side. Is the Krage mount Universal or is there something better out there. Is there any Local Autoparts Store that I can go to. I tried the Napa parts numbers that were listed in either this thread or another one and they weren't on file on the website and doing a search got me nothing. I have tried Checker, Advanced Auto and Napa and come up dry.

I installed my "Krage" drivers side motor mount a couple weeks ago with no problem.

I just ordered a left and right mount for my '68 cj5 with the 225 from a place called willsworks in Arizona. They showed a different part number for each. Its going to cost me $53 shipped. This place is a small Ma and Pa type shop. The guy was helpful and it sounds like they have some hard to find stuff, so another resource for rare parts.
They have a website, www.willysworks.com, but no catalog.
I'll report after I get and install them.

A guy regularly puts them up on ebay for 24.99 for the set, with a different left and right. That is where I got mine. Search under "225 V-6"
