While still rebuilding a spare T-case to drop in when I do a transmission swap this summer, I pondered what color to paint the running gear and at a later date, what color to paint the engine when it gets a rebuild.

I saw the pic McRuff posted of his engine and it looks great. So I got a couple of cans of "Pontiac Blue" engine enamel and tried it on a spare bellhousing. It looks pretty good. Should be easy to spot oil leaks.

What color are you guys using (or what color do you plan on using?)

I see alot of internet jeep pics with trans & t-cases painted gray, but had a engine once that I had painted black. Couldnt spot the leaky spots, and it was pretty dark under there.

Hot pink. You'll spot anything! And throw on some nice periwinkle blue polka-dots for a touch of class.

Seriously, though, there's been some discussions around on original engine colors, but I haven't decided yet what I'm gonna do with mine. Maybe original, but if not probably blue. Not too dark, so like you said you can spot leaks and such.

The color I used on my engine was Detroit diesel green, it is a close match to the original Buick green but not quite, you can order the Buick green from TA performance. My transmission is gloss black along with my transfer case, my bellhousing was left natural and slightly polished with steel wool to make it have some shine.

When I went through my transfer case and tranny a couple of months ago, I painted everything from the bell housing back crylon hunter green. I painted the emergency brake drum machinery gray, and the raised DANA emblem on the TC I painted yellow for some contrast. the wife thought I had lost it, she said you would be able to see it under the side of the jeep, but that's the point. I can find oil leaks on it, it stays clean, it is easy to tell what parts have been rebuilt (also did the ross box to match) and I plan to paint the jeep some shade of green some day anyhow. I just have to get to the Buick green for the engine...:v6:

How cliche', if you want it orange at least use Hemi orange.:D
Silly question, you know these case's are gonna leak no matter what you do to seal them, why would you want them painted something bright just to see them leak, there gonna laways leak in the same 3 places, the pan, the shims in the tail housing, and the front seal, the tranny will leak in the front seal.;)

Plus it's color coded and you'd automatically know where it went...if you loose more than one piece at a time. ;)
