I FINALLY got a chance to rebuild the carb. This was my first, and I think I did alright. I took a few guesses but the jeep seems to be running well.

The kit came with 3 rubber tipped fuel needles and 2 seats, one of which was the same size as mine but a little different and the other was nowhere close. None of the 3 needles matched mine so I went with the closest size. Who knows where the parts I have came from. I think a few years back friend rebuilt it with a parts kit from Kaiser Willys.

The check ball I had was also between the smaller and larger supplied balls. I went with the larger one, and I'm missing the check ball weight shown on the diagram.

The jeep is running strong. The only thing that isnt perfect is the idle. It makes a slight backfiring noise, random yet constant. Like a "pah, pah, pah-pah, pah, pah-pah" but I think ita always done that. Any ideas?

I think, if you took a poll, you would find that at least two out of three 134’s sound like that. Mine do it. You would have to spend a heck of a lot of money to get rid of the Jeep put-putt.

Thanks guys. I took a long drive for ice cream yesterday and it seems to be running perfect. Hopefully it stays that way!

Drive it for a week or so and then check point gap, timing, cleanliness of points, rotor, inside of cap contacts, etc.

My experience is, after you rebuild the carb, get a fuel filter and a fuel pressure regulator. Mine runs like a top now.

Where do people typically install a filter? Also, I've never seen a generic pressure regulator that could be slapped on anything.

For setting the mixture screw, I just fiddled with it at idle till it sounded nice. Is there any better rules of thumb or anything, since I don't have a gauge to measure the intake flow?

The best place for a fuel filter is before the pump, but I'm pretty sure most, including myself install one after it. They have regulators that you can put barbed fittings on at parts stores, Kaiser Willys has them also.

For the idle mixture screw start with 1 1/2 turns out from softly seated. Once you get it idling good turn it in until you notice the idle just start to slow down. That is supposed to be the best adjustment but I just use it to get the minimum turn out and then feather it from there.

Easy to install a filter before the pump.

Universal ajustable pressure regulator can be had for $20. Recommended for "rough service" with a F-head.

I put one in before the pump, and another one between the pump and the carb.

I’m with him. I run two filters. Both are reusable after cleaning. Both have ceramic elements. #1 is a tube-type, in-line located just downstream from the tank, mounted in the frame. #2 is located at the carb. I clean them once a year.

Is there a way for contaminants to get in the fuel in the mechanical pump that makes you run one before and after?

Probably overkill but is a good idea. Better to have more than enough than the opposite. :)

I like the jeep. Authentic to the real roots of Jeep history.
