What is the best muffler to put on the stock 225 V6. I don't want anything loud. I will be putting in the dual exhaust soon and want to have the mufflers when I take it in to have it done. I was planning on having the tail pipes come out behind the rear tires. Any thoughts or pictures of your rigs would be nice. I want it to be a slick tucked away exhaust system. Oh by the way they are stock manifolds.

if you go with headers the small turbo mufflers aren't too loud and fit nice.

I run a Cherry Bomb Turbo with manifolds and single exhaust exiting out the passenger side behind the rear wheel. Its very quiet and for $25 at Fleet Farm I think it's a good bang for the buck. It is a pinch seam style muffler so longevity might not be the greatest compared to a fully welded one though.

I got some free stainless ones in a pile of junk discarded from a mustang where some guy "upgraded".

I have to do the exhaust system yet on mine. I'm going to use stock head pipes but increase the size of the single exhaust at the Y to 2.5" to the muffler, then a 2.25 inch tailpipe. It should be nice and mellow. It should also flow as well or better than duals and you don't have the extra expense of multiple mufflers. I also don't like the idea of a pipe on the right side. Just my opinion.

Did some more research on what exhaust system is best for the stock 225 V6 with stock manifolds. Most say go with single exhaust sytstem. 2" pipe from manifold to Y pipe and 21/4" from Y to muffler and 21/4" out the passenger side at a 45 degree angle with a slight downturn. What do you think. I may choose to use flowmaster series 70 mufflers. Alot of the info was because of some backpressure you might need.

This is pretty much how I did mine with lots of help bending and making a the 'y-pipe' from a local shop. It had pretty used headman headers when I got it, and I have no real tangible feel for the reported low rpm backpressure you might need. If anything, I think I loose a little high rpm performance with the manifolds and single exhaust, but its probably more my imagination than reality. I have not regretted an instant the switch to manifolds and single exhaust. I've always been interested to see how noahlon has his headers to exhaust pipes routed to behind the rear wheels - I really disliked how my fenderwell headers exited in front of the rear wheels due to heat, noise and exhaust smell. I would consider headers with good turbo mufflers and exit behind the rear wheels.

I used headers and short turbo mufflers turned out in front of rear wheels. Way to loud. Chances are I am going to score some 75 to 79 manifolds and use larger mufflers.

    Ron,
I really like the frame mounted muffler hangers...Thanks for posting. Time for me to redesign my setup.

I use the super traps (tune able) but wonder at getting some header tubes and pipe to build my own like that one day. I can't find a decent muffler shop around here that wouldn't cost me less than $500 for a custom exhaust setup.
