So, I was in the local junk yard recently to pull some under-dash courtesy lights out of a YJ, and what I saw blew me away.... Someone had recently junked a mid 80's Laredo!! I pulled all of the "extras" out of it, including the clock, tach, intermittent wiper switch, tilt column, and air conditioning, just because I couldn't let them rot!!
I'm thinking about using the wiper switch. I've been reading threads about this, but have a few questions. Is this plug-n-play wiring with my 74, as far as the switch is concerned??
I understand that I will need to upgrade to a 4 wire wiper motor (post-76). Will these motors fit under my external wiper motor cover??
Also, are the wiring colors on the motors the same, excluding the 4th ground wire of the post 76??

just a note here, and a thank you... I just did the headlight relay upgrade, and it was easy. Thanks to the threads here. I also put my off-road lights on a 3 way switch so I have the option of switching them on automatically with my high beams, or independently. I know it's not legal on the road, but when I take off at 4am in the dark to go fishing, I'd rather get a scolding from a cop than hit a moose!! Besides, all of the logging trucks run them.......

Not plug and play, you will need the delay box and wiring for it the later wipers will park on the opposite side as the original ones. Good score I never find any old junk in the salvage yard.

The '76-on motor is exactly the same as the earlier motor, except for the mounting bracket. There are two long screws that secure the field to the gearbox - remove those and switch brackets. You have power, ground and two speed control. The motor runs by grounding one of the control wires. The ground is only needed so that the motor can continue to run and park at the side when you turn off the switch.
Ground on the "3-wire" motor goes through the frame of the motor.

Yeah, I didn't mention that I pulled the delay harness section, as well. So, I just need to jump that into my existing harness and mount a 4 wire motor????? Sounds easy....I must be missing something!!!

I installed a YJ wiper washer bottle in my 74. I combined the windshield and rear window tubes with a "Y" fitting hoping to get more pressure to the windshield. I also combined the front and rear pump wires to one switch.
The motor runs, but I get no pressure. When I remove the tubes from the bottle and hit the switch, fluid runs out of both tubes, but not like it's being pumped. Seems like it's just gravity draining.
Could the pump have an internal valve that is switched to either side but not both at the same time???

Update.. The bottle has 2 separate pumps. Neither seem to be pumping. Is it possible that the motors run, but don't actually pump.
Sorry, this isn't really an intermediate cj5 issue..............

On my 76 it was completely plug in and play. I purchased the delay box and wire harness off eBay and a new motor and switch from one of the regular Jeep vendors. Intermittent wipers are one of the best upgrades I've done to my CJ.
