Actually there is some validity to the idea of putting a heavy rubber band on the outer cup of the speedo. Its common practice when turning an item on a lathe that might chatter to put a heavy rubber dampening strap around the outside. I would guess the same dampening effect could work on a speedo that was vibrating from something induced by the cable. Asperagas comes with a heavy blue rubber band try a couple of them to see if it helps. Sure wouldn't hurt.

Coming home the other day my speedometer quit working. When I got home, a large oil puddle formed and the underside was coated with oil. Found the inside cable broke about an inch inside the xfer case connection and had wallowed a hole in the sleeve. Took the cable out of the sleeve and put some silicone seal on the hole until my new cable comes in. The couple inches that everything moved back when I installed the T98 stretched the cable just a little too much.

Not valid in reference to the jeep King Seeley or Stewart Warner types. On these speedometers the outer cup is the speed cup (connected to the pointer) which does not make a complete revolution. The inner (magnetic) cup spins via the speedometer core and there is no clearance between it and the speed cup to install a rubber band so no fix here using that application.

I cleaned the cup with alcohol swabs and carb cleaner . Also took the rubber band off a mask and tied it around the cup . The bounce is down to about an 1\8 of an inch .
