worked out that mine only needed 17 psi in front and 14 in the rear got five years outta the tires

Well put Nickmil, I learned that from motorcycles, too little air in the front causes head wobble, too much rides too hard, and decreases braking. It's all about the patch area. I run around 25lbs in the rear and 30lbs in the front, it gives me a decent all around ride, on the road or the trails.

 

That's pretty close to the 16 psi I use with my CJ 5-also determined by Nick's method. Obviously, you will get different results with different size tires.

 

I used a puddle.

 

I bought a set of Kelly Springfields off of a neighbors Commando and he had them aired up to 35 lbs. They are 2250 lbs max at 50 PSI. We just swapped out wheels and tires to start. I knew they were well overinflated. Just for laughs I ran them for a block or two. A 3B with a 2" Rancho suspension isn't the most easy riding thing around. Finally dropped them to 20PSI for around town and run around 15 to 18 PSI on a trail.

 

I have a set of Skyjacker soft ride 2 1/2" lift and love them.

 

I have Rough Country 2.5" lift on my '62 CJ-5 and I was afraid they would be rough as heck. There was no flex at all on them when I had the jeep on jackstands, but once I got the Jeep on the road, they were great. The only complaint I have with them is the brackets that wrap around the springs to keep the leafs aligned are breaking. I have broken two of them so far and the springs are not that old.

 

nice! thanks for the input guys. I have no idea what springs are currently on my Jeep, but they seem to ride well once I got the correct length shocks on. When I got the Jeep it had factory shocks that were fully extended at ride height. So I think I have a 2.5" lift or so...

I picked up a set of used black diamond springs that are military wrapped, 15 years old, but apparently only have 3000 miles or so on them. They were too cheap to pass up. I dont plan on installing them anytime soon, but I have them if I need them, or for the right price, they are for sale!
