Finally got some pics of my Jeep in CA. What is left of it is not too bad rust wise. But some NGSOB decided to strip it of lots of hard to replace stuff. Pics here: WestCoastPat's Library Slideshow

Okay-several of you guys have kinda let me know it is probably not going to be easy. I got that. Before I got the few pictures I only heard it was a complete rust bucket. That doesn't look to be the case. But because of the thief it is kinda stripped :). I had a budget without seeing it of $10 Grand. Included a glass body (now not needed I think) and a complete rebuild of the rest. I figure it will cost a Grand to refresh the motor doing a lot of the pull apart and clean myself. Now I am not sure-if I just put it back together using off the shelf parts without trying to stay original, and go thru all the systems like brakes and replace that need it-refresh or rebuild drive train-enough to have a decent weekend Jeep I think I can still stay within the 10 Grand. I am open to ideas and thoughts. If you wish to be kind that would be good, but if a hard lesson needs to be taught that would also work. I am a big boy and have had both good and bad times in that thing so it won't be new to me.
If you wish to talk to me instead of posting anything I would be happy so share my# with you-just let me know. Thanks for looking and any ideas you might share. WCP

I have a couple parts Jeeps that have far more parts on them. Anything can be assembled if you want too. It is really easy to find a pretty nice old CJ for 5 grand and then have lots of money left over to work on it.

Pat if you are just going to put it together enough to drive then maybe you can stay under budget, but if you are talking complete rebuild the I don't think so. Just my opinion.

You can buy a completely rebuilt jeep for under 10. So this is totally a sentimental thing for you. I understand that.

Always cheaper to let the previous owner pay the freight on rebuilds and restorations.
But maybe you want a project.

    Just as a frame of reference - I have a '62 I'm converting to a 225, T18, D18 w/OD, 11" brakes, Saginaw, cage, tires, wheels, body work, paint - figure I'll have about $6K in it when I'm done.

10 G's should be more than enough to purchase two pretty decent Jeeps that are ready to be driven now with a little cash leftover. I figure I have dumped about $14K on early CJ5's in the last three years now, that's the purchase price for four Jeeps and one T86/90 transmission from Herm. There are almost no clean older Jeeps in NE, I have done most of my shopping on the front range in CO, you have to hunt them where they live. I call it the "Corvette Syndrome", if you have a Corvette in my little one-'Vette town, it's a big deal. You drive the same car to Omaha and it's just another Corvette. I'm guessing they should be pretty popular where you are living too.

Line-x on interior and exterior. That just ruined it for me.

I agree Glenn. I have Line-X on the inside of my pickup bed. It came that way when I bought it and it is okay. But I don't want it on the outside of anything. WCP

Yeah, inside of a truck bed is fine and generally is a good idea. Mine has the heavy duty plastic bedliner, same situation it was already in there but I don't really like it that much.
