Hey guys, I have a 1971 Jeep CJ5 that I'm gonna be selling shortly and i wanted to know what you guys thought it was worth. It runs and drives pretty good, but it needs some work to be road worthy. It has the hurricane inline 4. Working PTO winch. Plow mount with plow (Plow lift works but i haven't tried the plow). 3 speed transmission. Blinkers, brakes, and lights all work. It does have a decent amount of rust. Thanks in advance guys! Im still learning about jeeps and I'm having a blast doing it![IMG]

No way to tell without knowing what kind of work it needs to be roadworthy.

Wisconsin, and it doesn't need that much, just a good going through, it fires up, idles good, has plenty of power, it drives good, I've driven it through the neighborhood and gotten it up to 40 mph. It drives straight.

It also has a bed extender. Any idea what this is worth?

I don't know much about plows, but I would go $1200 for the Jeep. A large part of that is due to the offset flanged axle rearend. Rust is the biggest factor in overall value.

The plow has very little value. The body is pretty bad.

The PTO winch is worth several hundred bucks.
Are those original side steps I see in the back? If so, some scarcity value to those.

What are you calling a "bed extender?" If one of the these, and if factory-made, that would have some "cool" value to a jeep collector. Got pics?

A good going through? What does that mean? Completely rebuilt? Fluids changed? Brake overhaul? Lots of ambiguity there with little hard info. Please be more forthcoming so we can help you.

Yes it is the factory bed extender like you have pictured. I don't have a picture on my computer but I'll see if i can add it from my phone. And it should probably have all of the fluids change, the brakes work good but I haven't taken a look at the lines or anything. I greased all of the steering parts because it steered a little hard and its a lot better now. It probably needs the fuel tank at least flushed, i used a vacuum evacuator to suck all of the old fuel out then refilled it. It mostly needs body work. I had to replace the points and condenser when I got it, so and I checked it with a feeler gauge and i also checked the dwell, it runs good but sometimes is difficult to start and will sometimes run rough until warm.

Well, you see by this thread, it is very difficult to price someone else's Jeep. Should hold some interest with the hunting shack crowd. IMO it has more going for it than a pricey ATV . The winch, plow & etc. to the right buyer are pluses. People ask in the neighborhood of $600 plus for using plows in northern MN. The rusty body can be a bigger negative than minor or even greater mechanical repairs that are needed. So, to me it is a winch and plow on a utility Jeep for the hunting shack or similar use.

If I'm buying--$1200; if I'm selling probably double that. (y):D To the right buyer, if they keep the price of ATVs in reference, and are willing to 'wrench', $2000-2500 is not unreasonable. Is that buyer out there--good question!

Thanks for the answer! And I definitely know what you mean, I wouldn't pay what I would ask for it! I was thinking of posting it for like 2 or 2200 and saying I'm negotiable. I was just really unsure about the value of it because it had the winch. I wasn't sure if it was kind of saught after for a collector or something.

Pto winches are more of a cool factor then a actual working piece of machinery these days. They are amazing for pulling, just kinda like using a rotary phone now. The bed extender is best sold on Ebay as those usually bring about $250 or so if in really good shape.

A 71 with an F-head is truly a rare beast.
But don't get excited...it's not gonna help you in value.
It's at $1500 in So Cal prices, in my opinion.

I paid $2,000.00 for my 64 with a plow in Michigan in 2002, traded the worn out plow back to the guy for all his extra parts from a donor Jeep.

It's worth whatever the right guy that comes along will pay for it, I paid $5000.00 for mine but it was in very good shape (almost no rust) and almost original. I had looked at other basket case ones for a lot cheaper but decided this one was a better place to start. Judging by your pictures I'd say if the right guy come's along you might get $2500 for it. Is the fuel tank under the bed ? Mine is under the seat and I believe the one under the bed was optional.

A guy across the street asked me how much I wanted for my 3B. I told him to check out what they are asking for them on places like Ewillys. It's been a few weeks.

Around late '69 early '70 (depending on who you talk to) the fuel tank went under the rear of the Jeep.

I totally get that. People see my military and say "I wish I could get one of those."
When I tell them they can probably get a nice one for $5K, they go all quiet. (But they spend more than that on a POS ATV...)
