I was wanting to see if anyone here knew of a place that sells either novak or aa adapters for the sm420 to dana 18 for less than what they want on thier web sites. Im looking to do it soon and could use a price break to stay on budget. Anyone have any comments on the Rube adapter? Hes not much cheaper 450 i think he said. Thanks

FWIW, I had a SM420 before I found my T-98. I spoke with Rube extensively and had decided to go with him for the parts I needed, but never got around to buying the parts as I didn't need anything for my T-98. He was a very nice guy on the phone and I enjoyed talking to him and the thought of NOT giving money to AA.

I bought the rube and was very happy with the product. Ruben is a good guy and very helpful. Everything worked great and I have had no problems. I would go with Rube and skip AA. I guess the Novak adapter is good and they seem to be good people as well.

I know a guy who put a sm420 in his jeep before they made 10" adapters. He took the main shaft out of the 420, annealed it, cut and welded on the end of a T-90, which has the same size shaft, same size bearing.
Turned it down, hardened the shaft, and pressed on the bearing.
No adapter, No driveshaft length change. He did make very thin adapter out of aluminum to bolt the T-case to the back of the 420.
Just enough to countersink the bolt heads from both directions.
I hope to take pics of it in the next month or so.
I can only say that it can be done, and has been done, at this point.
He also has a twin stick D-18 and has a spare, long side rear axle strapped to the hood supports above the carb of his oddfire. A nifty idea for wasted space.
