1960 CJ5 F134 – fuel pump is leaking, looks like new gaskets would resolve the matter. Decided to just replace it with new unit from Walck and repair the old one later. Only ……

A closer look by wrench-head friend reveals that the existing pump has multiple tubing connections – the fuel in and out is easy, as is the vacuum connection. In addition, the pump has a “lower unit” that is attached to tubing/lines that route to the oil filter. It all looks original to me.

The fuel pump obtained from Walck has none of that. I have a call into Frank now to see what light he can shed on the subject. Anyone know what the story is on this fuel pump configuration? The nomenclature for the combo fuel & lube oil circulation pump? I’m having zero luck on the internet trying to find a mention of this setup.

I’ve attached a couple of poor pictures that may assist my explanation.

    As always, appreciate the help.

    Ummm...

Top is fuel pump. Bottom is vacuum pump. Oil line behind/under the pump goes to the block, where it is fed from the oil gallery/oil pump.

The walcks unit may be fuel pump only. Some jeeps are set up that way, especially if they have electric w/s wipers.

Wow. So the fuel pump has an auxiliary function in supplying oil to the filter. Any idea where I might find a rebuild and/or kit for this? Pretty much a dry hole from my on line research. I still haven't been able to reach Frank Walck. I do appreciate your help, Pete.

I don't think that is what Pete meant. Have you removed the fuel pump yet? I believe he was referring to the oil line location made it look like it was part of the fuel pump maybe?

Of course rereading your description makes me wonder about it.

    To clarify -

The OEM oil line disappears behind the vacuum pump and direct to the block. It should have no connection with the vacuum or fuel pump.

Just a point of information, When I put a new, upside down bowl, fuel pump of my motor, I rotated the top section of the fuel pump 180 degrees. That put the inlet on the back and outlet on the front, makes it a lot easier to make the lines. Hope this helps, good luck.

PeteL has it right. The top "half" is fuel pump; the lower is vacuum. No oil system involvement. Talked to Walck and he steered me to the correct pump. Good folks. Appreciate the help, gents.
