My version of the wheel house notch

    Out of all the options I've seen, I think this method requires the least amount of fabrication and retains a sort of stock appearance.

    The only thing you have to make is the side plate inside of the notch and a little extension piece for the floor.

    Brett, Nice job.............so how much did you remove side to side and front to back?...............and you needed it on a 1972 CJ?

    I took off exactly 2" off the back. the first picture shows my soap marks for the only cuts you have to make. After that, all you have to do is slide the remaining piece of the front up against the furthest cut. No side-cutting needed. As far as how far inward I cut, I just cut one inch away from the side support. Note that you can cut at any length you want. I chose to do it that far back because it is easier to splice the beads back together in the center, rather than having to cut it from where the bead stops.

    Yea, I'm 6'2 and my knees were pretty close to the dash. I also put in Corbeau Baja low backs which take up a lot more space than stock seats. And thanks for the compliments:beer:

    Nice work Brett :tea:
    Great approach, improving the "performance" while retaining the stock appearance as much as possible.
    I definitely like the look of this better than the traditional notch.

    Will this be a light duty rig, or are you planning harder trails?
    Looks like no issue for light duty... for harder trails, I'd be interested in tire size and clearances during full stuff...

    It'll just see trails through the woods and creek beds around here. The biggest tire I ever see myself running would be a 31x10.50, which is what I accounted for with the notch. If I run anything bigger, say a 32, It would be accompanied by a suspension lift so I don't see it ever being an issue.

    I wish I could weld that thin stuff.. When I did mine all I did was blow holes.. Ended up using pop rivets..
