Hi new here to the site and figured I would post up for ideas and comments on my 5 to 6'ish build. It is not a restoration by any means. The rig is being built to run Michigan trails and where ever else the budget allows. I am already into the build and am using parts from another Jeep ;xj; that I lost interest in and scrapped out.

So it is a 1971 body I bought off cragslist,
    A 4.8l Gm engine, 4l60e trans and a dana 300 flipped.
Front_Dana 60 Kingpin narrowed 4 in with 5.38 gears and a sparten locker, High steer
Rear_ dana 60 narrowed 6in? can't remember exactly, 5.38 gears and a welded diff, 35 spline axles disc brakes etc...
    37 in tires also.
    How about pictures

    body when I bought it.

I did not like the front of the Frame so i changed it. I don't have a good picture of it currently. Weather sucks i don't want to push it out side for pictures just yet.

a friend came over and we mocked up the engine. very tight with the short hood [IMG]

I got the engine and trans half mounted then started working on the body stretch. My thought was to see where the body lands on the frame and adjust the engine mounts accordingly .

    The body work.

Made a template out of poster board and got cut out in 18 gauge steel, than tacked in. It came out ok, I have not welded patch panels in a while.

Starting on the 20in stretch. I am hoping a Cj6 top fits.

I will have to figure out something for the floor along the way
    [IMG]
I am sitting up some shelving parts that have close to the right bends as the original body. Did I say this is not a concours d'elegance build.[IMG][IMG][IMG]

Than did the same to the Drivers side.

Now the Floor needs to be built.

The pictures are taken with a Cell phone. It's all I have, sorry about the quality.

Does the CJ6 Floor kick up in the same place or does it follow the stretch back?

I also want to reuse the tool box where do most people put it?

SWEET!! I think most guys leave the tool box in the same location and mimic the cj6 20" floor section.

What manufacture brand of shelving is the pre-bent pieces from? I'd love to get a set of these for when I do my stretch later down the road!

Nice work on the Jeep. What kind of out boards are those?

I have no idea on the brand, it was given to me as a gift years ago. I just kept my eye out for the right profile. The rails could be done with a sheet metal break the same what I am doing them.

I proof read the post and still had that typo. I used poster board on the template and copied that to steel and cut it out.

Looks good. Might want to weld in some bracing to make sure everything stays straight. You probably already have.

The body was twisted pretty good when I bought it. I will pull it back into shape as I go along.
On the agenda for today is templates for the floor and looking into body mounts and body to frame spacing. Also I am going to put the tool box between the front and rear seats where the stretch is.

Little picture update. Not much has happened in a couple months. Moving houses does that. Just rolled it off the trailer in these pics, and it is still tacked together for moving it. Wheelbase is not set.[IMG]

Thanks for the kind words. The hardest part is finding time to work on it. Vw was supposed to be a flip but i kind of like it.

Here is how i got the side panels to match the original jeep panels. I figured out that the radius on the 2X4 tube is the same as the bottom panel radius, see pictures. [IMG]
