MMO and SeaFoam

After adding MMO to cylinders gas and oil and adding seafoam directly into carb after 3-4 minutes it seems to have a much higher idle (maybe 400 extra rpms at idle going by ear) I had to lower idle setting Does this mean that it freed up the dead cylinder or stuck valve? I hope so have loots to do to this ol willy

 

sounds like you may have freed up the valve. A compression test will tell.

In many cases after you shut it off and it sits for a day or two it will be stuck again, so you may do the mmo thing sevaral times. The longer you can let it sit and idle the more likely that the engine oil will have a chance to lubricate that nasty little valve assembly so that it no longer causes a problem.

 

Its been Idleing for about 2 and a half hours now. The raise in rpm's is coming and going surging like. its rpm's go up then a min or so down. Sometimes its rpm's stay up for a while other times not so long . I can hear it from inside since I removed the pipe at about under driver seat muffler was spiting chunks of blackness out so I disconected it. LOL How long should I let her Idle. Almost feel like letting it Idle all night. I have shut it of and heat cycled it a couple time to let things contract and expand. Antifreeze plentifull and its flowing thru engine well.

 

I wouldn't let it idle all night. Granted it has valve rotators, but still I can't believe it is good for it to idle that long.

Shut 'er down and crank it in the morning and see if you get the same result.

Idling for long periods is bad on the bearings, you would be better off letting it idle until warmed up and driving it around alittle. be easy on it and don't load the motor to heavily with hard acceleration or loads like hills and such!!

 

Well I'm glad the MMO and the Seafoam worked for you. On alot of engines it depends on how long they have set and how long the valves have been stuck to make a good judgement on what to do next. First I would recommend that you start the engine let it get to normal temp, then shut off and hook a for compression. If compression is good then I would take it for a drive. Dont be easy on her, but dont try to peel rubber either, start slow then slowly start to bring her up into the higher rpm's for longer durations. If the compression is bad then I would try two things. First put a nice amount of octane booster into your gas, making her run hotter and cleaner, burn out some of the gunk and possibly loosen up somemore debris. Then do another full treatment of MMO and Seafoam. Run her lightly but dont let it just sit and idle for hours either. When it sits and idles for long time periods you will start to get excess carbon buildup and the rings/valves will not seat as good. Good luck.

 

Well its morning and -7 below zero (-28 with windchill) will see if she starts right up.

Nope my garage is outside. 28 below zero with wind chill. I cant take my gloves off for more than 3-4 minutes without running(and I mean running) inside for a warm up. Well #1 cylinder is still dead though it may have helped some others was too cold to check compression on those tho my main concern was the #1 cylinder. Took me all day to do a oil change. but I drained it then filled it with kerosene than ran it for bout 9 minutes (4 if it warm out) drained it, filled it again with kerosene drained it,cleaned out the oil filter base as it had a inch of sluge in it. Wanted to drop pan but thats were I drew the line just too damn cold out. then put new filter and four quarts of oil and a quart Marvels Mystery Oil. It is now Idleing still missing on the number 1 cylinder but will see in an hour what happened.

 

If you got that much sludge out of the oil filter canister, I would DEFINITELY pull the oil pan the first chance you get. Otherwise you will be fighting the crud battle for some time.

Hmmm. I didn't did know you could do this. Makes good sense though. I suppose it washes out all of the oil passages really good. Does it knock like crazy when you have only kerosene in it?

 

Not any worse than when oil was in it. Its a farmers trick. It really get into those tiny passages. I really need to do it again but not till spring cleaned most of the crap out. Its also oily so it does lube some.

 

make sure to change the filter. kero will lube, just not for long. diesal also works.

 

I've known guys to drain 2qts or so of oil then add 2 qts of kerosene and let it idle. I didn't know you could drain the system and run nothing but kerosene in it.

 

The oil pan does not drain completely (as most dont.) If it had been setting for long periods of time I suggest removing the pan to clean out all the garb that has accumilated from sitting so lon. The 225 oil pan is really easy with nothing obstructing it (assuming you have a 225) so it is very easy to pull and reinstall. For what its woth, thats my opinion
