Won't start.... Turns over very slow.

This weekend I had some assistance.

I first pulled the fan belt and turned the alternator, water pump, and crank pulley. They all appeared to be okay....

The second set of hands was very helpful when testing voltage at the starter.

I was under the jeep with the test meter probes on the new starter while the other person could turn the key.

I was getting very strange readings. It would say 12v and then drop to zero with no action from me.

With that information I decided to pull the starter and start over.

I bought a new battery and new battery cables. I reinstalled the new starter, battery, and cables.....

Cranked right up the first time!!!!

Though the cables that were in the jeep at the start were only 5 years old. The combination of new battery, starter, cables, and most importantly fresh connections, I am back in business.

Now time to source a new dual brake master cylinder....

Now, see if the old battery works in another vehicle, so you can tell us if that was part of the trouble.

 

It gets pretty cold in N.C. His battery may have froze. That will kill the capacity of the battery. So if not the battery then obviously bad cables or connection. Curious to know for sure..

 

While most northerners will not think it gets cold this far south.... It got down to single digits last winter. Even though I tried multiple batteries and jumper cables I don't know for sure what the issue was. I am just happy it is now fixed. It must have been a combination of corroded connections and bad battery.

My brake master cylinder should be here today and hopefully get installed this weekend; ready to be back on the road.
