Something isn't sitting right!

Ok I have exhausted the search function and would like opinions.
My drive train is sitting wonky, the drivers side header "slaps" the tub and the passenger side "hangs" to low?
I do understand that the :v6: motor mounts are specific left to right and they could in fact be switched but the engine itself doesn't look "clocked". I removed the passenger side mount and although it's "tired" it is still in one piece and i could not find any markings indicating right or left? The cross member t-case mount is also clearly being pinched harder on the passenger "low hanging" side:?

notice the fan blade at some point has been "chopping away at the radiator neck . I suspect this issue has more to do with the kinda loose front clip rather than the clocking issue.

 

I am pretty sure this is a 1968 cj5 with the v6 225.


I am also pretty sure his is how it came from the factory.

 

Your right about the year and power plant! Are you saying it should be wonky and the header's just exaggerate the problem?

 

I have no clue. I built my own out of pieces of a cj2a or 3a or 3b and maybe part of a cj5 frame and made my own motor mounts. I just happen to have just got this for another guy and figured id shoot a pic. My engine is wonky. my headers have a ball joint at the back so i don't see your type of problem. I got other ones that are entirely my fault.

I posted this pic to see if maybe they looked different than this and could be your issue. The fan and the radiator is not right.

 

No I guess i'll just order new mounts and hope it improves the issue. To hard for me to do side by side comparison with a photo.

maybe youre transfer case mount is pulling that side down

 

That's a great thought but I already tried that, it's as loose as it can be without being sloppy

 

I think I would put a bottle jack on right side of engine . under . and see what moves

 

Is your frame straight ? Frame may be bent some. Does the Jeep sit level ? ( just thinking )

 

My headers did that too, so I bent them..

 

"t" case mount might be in the wrong holes...I did mine an its off-set, its not centered like yours.there's also a bracket that goes from frame to the "t" case on passengers side.

 

You may have two motor mounts for the same side. One motor mount raises the engine higher than the other. Just saying.

I don't think the frame is bent it seems to sit level and drives straight as an arrow, but you never know with a 47 year old vehicle! I have already re installed the cross member due to the PO's not tightening the tranny down to it "was sliding back and forth" not a good sign of his ability to replace clutch!!! I didn't see an option to attach rubber mount "offset"? It all went back in rather naturally without having to tweak anything to much. If the mount's do not improve the situation I guess i'll bend the header that "slaps". After all it's just a big toy. Perfection is not really the order of business with this vehicle, having fun in the hills is and it does that well.

On another note the windshield was a little "floppy" for my liking. So I stuffed a 5 foot piece of fuel line under the hinge,that snugged the window up really nice and now if I blow a line I know where to get another piece. Anyone have the OEM windshield to hood latch? I think i'll be doing a lot of wheeling with the windshield down! I'm 6'4" and the top of the windshield is dead nuts in my line of sight

 

The latch in question is the same one used to lock the pass seat. Sorry don't have a number.
