Need some help figuring out what they have attempted here. I want to clean up this vipers nest.
It was working before I started the rocker arm replacement. (and should still...)
It's a Delco Remy Alternator - mounted upside down - with only two wires coming off the back post.
One (0ga) back to the battery, the red 10ga into the harness.
As the pictures show I've got (6) 'orphaned' wires.
    - Green with red tape is Hot when switched. (H4)
    - Black with red tape is always Hot (D4)
    - White with lug - Dead (D3)
    - White w/Green Stripe - Dead (E9)
    - Brown with Spade Lug - Dead (A11)
    - Green with Boot - TempSensor
Regulator is mounted down on the fender wall and connected into the original harness.
I've searched through 'conversions' but have not found one that matches this configuration.

    Thanks, _Dan

Ah, so it is a (1) Alternator setup. Boy the reviews on that setup aren't so hot.
We'll have to wait and see how long this setup lasts. I did some alterations to the mounts so that they would
be a tad tighter and square but I still have a slight misalignment on the pulleys.
When I get a chunk of free time I may mill out a mounting bracket to fit the Delco.
I've got the PDF of the '74 FSM that I've been using. I really should break down and buy the '73.

    Thanks,
    _Dan

The emissions will be different between '73 and '74, in some details. There were other changes, not substantive. The main changes were in the full-size platform (Wagoneer, J-truck) which went to open knuckle axles and 6-lugs with optional front disk brakes in '74.

You understand that the alternator has a regulator within it? If you want to go to a 3-wire 10SI Delco (the alternator you show is a 10SI), you can buy one at any parts store cheaply. 63A rating is pretty ordinary. You'd likely be best off to absorb any core charge, and sell your 1-wire alternator. The differences in wiring a 1-wire vs. a 3-wire are very basic, and I don't see why anyone would want a 1-wire. But people like them for hot rods and such, where simplicity is wanted.

As stated, your alternator has a built in regulator so you don't need that Motorola or Prestolite regulator on the fender. That will get rid of three wires for you.

I've been using a one wire from Summit for years.
The bearings went out in it after just a short time but I replaced them and, from an electrical standpoint, it's always worked fine.

As long as the discussion has turned to one wire versus everything else...I replaced the stock unit with a Powermaster high amp unit, which I got for about $195. Not only do I love the simplicity of the one-wire, but the higher output is amazing. I wouldn't consider anything else.

"One Wire" alts do have a drawback for jeeps under certain circumstances- if you have a dual battery setup (say for a winch) that uses a battery isolator a one wire unit can not properly charge the batteries, there's a small voltage drop across the isolator that reduces the battery "float voltage", over time this will have a negative effect on capacity. With the three wire units you can connect the "sense" wire to one of the batteries & the alternator will bump up it's output till the battery voltage is correct.

3-wire also provides an amp light, if desired.

Thanks everyone as always! Guess it's time to educate myself on the 'one-wire' setup for the time being. I scored two other dead Delcos from a friends shop.
The have the same housing as mine and I was thinking of modifying the mounting bosses on the mill to fit my bracket. Haven't gotten around to that.
So, here's what I did the other night. Bundled them all up, ty-wrapped 'em, and hid them in tubing, rather like sweeping them under the rug, out of sight, out of mind - for now
I believe I'll go over everything when time and $$$ permits. The underside of the dash is a complete mess also and I haven't even looked at it.
I want to get her up and running and on the road.
I finished the pushrod surprise and am finishing up the new radiator/electric fan installation today - hopefully.
