Crank up the heat Bud! ..............That's what the pedal is for!.............and like I have said before, take a piece of scrap of the same size and weld on it first.....

Yeah, I have been TIG welding thin stainless sheet lately. warp and burn through. what an unpleasant job. Usually when I weld other regular stuff I use an Airco Dip-Pak 200 MIG welder. It has a 60% duty cycle at 200 amps and is 220 volt. Its older and fairly large, so it lives outside. It also will make a lot of sparks and is not well suited for use inside and it was raining yesterday. Its a good unit though. Really well suited to 10 gauge and much thicker stuff.

That's an awesome machine to have at home. All I have at home is a miller thunderbolt that's older than I am. One day I'll get a decent tig machine. My garage is under my house so I guess it could be considered in house welding. I'm single though so there is no one to yell at me.

My shop is in my basement. If your Miller thunderbolt is the one with DC polarity you can use it for TIG. You take the stick electrode lead and clamp it on a TIG lead, hook that to a regulator on argon and you have a scratch start Tig welder. no pedal and no AC so no aluminum, but it works fine for steel. The tig torch needs to have the gas knob on the torch itself. It will give you th basic feel for TIG welding and be very cost effective.

I've thought about converting but I'm so spoiled by the industrial machines at work I'd probably hate it.
