What was the stock engine for a 1975 CJ5? What is the parts supply like for the vehicle as a whole?

The stock motors were two inline 6 cyls, and a V8. The inlines were a 232, 258. The V8 was a 304. Parts are not hard to find for the motors but parts in general for the 75 may take some searching.

Its seems strange to me that parts are more plentiful for the early Jeep, 71' and back, as opposed to some of the later70s Jeeps. I guess it has to do with transition to AMC.

Depends on which parts you want. Engine and mechanical parts for mid-70s Jeeps are widely available. Some body and chassis parts are unique to those years.

I don't think there is any mystery to the parts availability - there were fewer of these Jeeps produced, fewer on the road now, and less demand. Without the demand, the aftermarket parts production doesn't have the coverage of the more popular models.

Such a parts situation is typical for old cars with small production compared to popular cars like Fords and Chevys. Ford built 450,000 light trucks in 1975 - I'd guess Jeep built something like 1/10th that many counting its whole production - CJs, wagons and trucks - in 1975, which was a pretty good year for sales of Jeeps.

    What parts can't you find?

I am considering looking at a 75' CJ5 this weekend and I am trying to figure out if that is a good idea or not :)

The intermediate jeep has a lot going for it Dana 44 flanged rear open knuckle 30 in the front Saginaw steering all are upgrades to an earlier jeep. The later 76 and up have better parts support but lack in the drivetrain dept. amc20 rear with a tapered axle is the first one that jumps out at me
