Do I need a proportioning/combination valve on my 1960 CJ5?

Just like the title says, is it necessary to install a proportioning valve in my system? I have upgraded to the dual master cylinder, new lines, 11" brake upgrade. If I need one does anyone have a part number and supplier?

Also, the pressure switch...... is it's job to activate the brake lights? or backup lights? Does it need to be mounted on the proportioning valve? or 4 way tee? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I'm a brake noob.

Any help is very much appreciated, as I need to finish the brakes so I can install the new drivetrain :D

The pressure switch is for the brake lights. The back up switch should be mounted to the shift tower on the transmission. You can get a universal proportioning valve and add it inline with the rear brake line.

Awesome! Thanks for the info, but what about the valves that regulate the front and back? I think they are called combination valves? Are they necessary? Or can I get away with just regulating the back lines?

It depends on which wheel cylinders you used, if the same diameter front & back then yes you need a proportioning valve. if you used a smaller diameter cylinder in the back then you shouldn't need the valve. IIRC without the valves fronts should be 1" & rears 15/16ths or 7/8 th's diameter.

you can put the pressure switch anywhere you want. mine is in the rear line and it works fine. I would build it without a proportioning valve. if you really feel the back brakes pulling and locking up before the front then install it. but i have never had an issue when removing them

Thanks for the reply. I think I will try it without because I am having a heck of a time finding a universal one. All I have to go off of is grainy pics found off of the internet. Most of them have the four ports for front and back lines. Nobody seems to have a part number or definite idea around my neck of the woods. I am starting from scratch, so I just want to do it right once. I will try to post pics of everything so maybe it will help somebody else in the future.
