Since I recently bought a new dash from Walck's, I've been looking at my paint options. The rest of my Jeep still has the original paint, and I'd like to paint the new dash with the same color/paint type as the original. What kind of paint did the factory use? Is this still available from someone?

My tux brochure from 1965 says the color option was White Cap, but from what I gather, this color was replaced by Glacier White by 1967. Can anyone verify this?

    Thanks!

I expect that they used an acrylic enamel in 1967.

Agree with Tim, I squirt PPG DELSTAR with a urethane hardener. Can't get in here in Mass, have to drive to New Hampshire or Rhode Island.

My Chip Chart (Martin Senour Paints) for Willys Jeep 61 - 67 shows a White Cap Color for 62-64 (32Y-7745), has a Blue Tint. There is a Glacier White for 1965 - 67 (32Y-7743), has more of a tan under tone. I am going to paint this color in a week or so, if you want a sample, send me a PM with address.

You can always take a part off your jeep and have the paint store match the color. That way if it has faded, you will get a better match.

White Cap and Glaicier White are two distinct different shades. You will need to have your paint supplier mix the specific
formula for your color. My paint books show White Cap for '63-'67, and Glacier for '65-'69. All my literature shows wagons and trucks using Glacier from '65-on, and my Tuxedo Park literature (dated for '65) as White Cap, which is what my '65 Tux is. '67 is about the end of the Tuxedo Park run, and White Cap runs through '67, so maybe it was continued for the CJs?
Do you have a trim tag on the firewall under the hood? White Cap is code 324,339,and 340, and Glacier is 395.

As I understand it, Kaiser used acrylic enamel during their production run. Its sometimes difficult to find single-stage mixing formulas today.

I am still trying to confirm Tuxedo Park colors after '65. Does anyone have an original 8322 in Spruce Tip Green, Empire Blue, or Gold Beige?

    Thanks Alan!

Unfortunately the paint and trim tags are missing from my Jeep. How can I tell what shade it is? I don't think there's any kind of blue tint, so I'm leaning towards Glacier, but it isn't really tan either.

I know pictures aren't very accurate for telling a paint color, but maybe they will help:

I think your pictures look the same as my Tux, which is White Cap. The Glacier white is more of a creamy white, whereas the White Cap is more a clean pure white.
My call is White Cap, code 339 / 340.
Nice looking Tux with lots of the correct trim from what I can see.

Wow what a nice jeep. I am going to shoot some Glacier White on Thursday if the weather holds. PM me your address and I will send you a sample of that color. Agree with Keys5a on tints of the two colors.

I received a sample of Glacier White from jwmckenzie (thanks again!) and it is fairly close, but I'm still not positive. It would be nice to see white cap in real life, but that probably won't happen. Here are some pics:

Take your old dash off, take it to a good quality automotive paint store and have them match it and put it in a rattle can, or mix the paint, and find someone to spray it. Unless you can spray it yourself, in which case, just have them match the paint.

It's not like you are doing a fender (trying to match to the hood and grill), you are doing a dash which has a lot of things breaking it up, with the one you are holding 99% of people will never be able to tell the dash isn't original paint.

I understand looking for perfection, but if you shoot just one panel, there is always blending of the other panels to get a perfect match, but in this case, the dash is so far away from any other panel, your eye won't be able to tell.

:iagree: Since the dashboard is a separate panel adjoining the rest of the body at right angles, close enough is good enough. If a fender was slightly off from the rest of the body, it would stand out a mile away, but the dashboard will likely blend in even if it is a shade or two off.

I'm not so worried about making the dash match, I'm just trying to gather information so that one day, when I restore this thing, I can do it right. Its not a big deal if things don't match up now, I'm just trying to determine the correct paint color for the day when I finally do a complete restoration.

    JW,
Do you know if glacier white was used on the wheels for the 67 cj5s? If not, do you know the color and if there is a color that is close in a rattle can. I saw another string where someone used a rustoleum color in a can that looked pretty good but could not tell how close to original it was. Any advice is appreciated.

Not sure what the Original Jeep wheel color was. I wanted my CJ6 two colors so chose the Glacier White for the grill and windshield, just painted the wheels to match as well.

    Check out this thread.

I would take a part to the paint store and have them scan it for a match. White is a very hard color to match.
