Generators are long and black, about 10''. Alternators are silver and about 6'' long, pprobably with a tag saying Motorola. A pic would settle it.

Battery dead this am. Jumped it and took to parts store. They tested battery and said it was good but was not getting much charge from alt/gen. So am planning on replacing alternator but question came in my mind, could it be voltage regulator?

going to have to upgrade membership so I can attach picture.

Pull it off and take it down and have it checked........if it's an Old alternator it has an external regulator follow the wires......if its more modern it's built in.........they will know at your FLAPS.

Could be. Probably need to pull the alternator and have it bench tested.

Definitely alternator. New one on the way. Meanwhile I have the battery on a float charge. Can I keep it hooked up 24/7 for days on end? Is there any reason to disconnect since it is fully charge Do?

You can leave it on a float charger indefinitely. That's what they are designed for.
