Hi Folks,
My 74 cj5 came with a bolt on roll bar. All research shows my particular roll bar to be a cj6 type.
Is it possible that Jeep or the dealer put this on? Jeep was civilian cj purchased by the Navy and used
by them until I bought it. Jeep is all stock as far as I can tell. 232 cid. Doing total restore.

A CJ-6 roll bar will not fit on a CJ-5.

Jeep did not supply a CJ-6 roll bar through the dealer parts network. AFAIK the only roll bar for the CJ-6 was the aftermarket Smittybilt product:

The hoop goes all the way to the floor and is completely vertical.

Post pictures of your roll bar - we can help ID.

It does indeed look like the one Tim posted...maybe the same manufacturer for the CJ5, or a modified CJ6 bar?

I will look at the welds. I'll let you know. I will also put a pic up of the current status of the '74.

That's a Smittybilt rollbar for a CJ5. On the CJ-6, there is an extra 20" of floor behind the seats, before the wheel houses begin. The hoop on a CJ-6 goes all the way to the floor, and only the braces sit on top of the rear wheel houses.

Smittybilt "competition" CJ-5 bar:

Apparently they made this style and a straight-bar style like the Whitco. Jim posted a picture of the catalog page long ago, but it has since been deleted. The picture still exists in the Google cache if you search for "CJ-5 Smittybilt roll bar." I'd cut and paste it, but it's difficult for me to do that at work right now.

That one looks like the basic CJ5 top of wheel tub mounted roll bar.........what I believe Tim was revering to is the main Hoop goes all the way to the floor in a CJ6 because of the extra 20 inches behind the seats that are flat in a CJ6..........versus yours which sits on the wheel tub.......

Sorry I did not see Tim's response yet............What Tim said!

This is not a very good set of picture but they do show what came on a 1974 CJ5 from the factory.
[IMG][/IMG]

Like a fool I let some guy talk me into trading my factory original rollbar for some piece of junk full cage. Now I am in search of an original. Help!
