I hope I am posting in the right forum.

Found a 66 CJ5 w/Dauntless engine for sale - a little rough but zero rust through, good frame and all the parts are there. Needs a PS front fender and a little TLC. All stock. Asking $1500 - Good deal?

I have a fresh 225 V6 with intake and headers that I think I could drop into this with very little trouble.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Sounds like a bargain from what you've described.

Can't hardly go wrong at that price if it's not rusty, it's complete, it runs and drives, and it's a Jeep you want.

Keep in mind (and it's been said on here before) that asking a bunch of Jeep aficionados if you should buy another Jeep is like asking a drug dealer if you should smoke some crack...:D

If driveable with small amount of work and has all the pieces with clear title then it's a bargain.

2x. Actually, even it it wasn't driveable but had a rust free tub, it would probably be worth it. Perhaps with the exception of the T86, all the driveline parts are readily available and not that expensive.

I will speak up as a voice of reason here for once. I have a rust free 64 tub that I have been trying to sell for several months now with zero hits. Where you are makes a big difference to what it is worth. The running gear in a 60's CJ5 is considered very obsolete by any of the "wheeling" crowd now. There are many $1500 Jeeps out there that are not only overpriced but are only worth 8 cents a pound. I just scrapped a running driving 1982 F150 4x4 that once upon a time had quite desirable parts that are now totally obsolete and was more valuable as scrap.

that's something i would consider. i have some parts i could easily build up another jeep with. having a nice clean canvas to work from is always a good thing.

I agree. Funny thing is, a 60s Jeep was, in some ways, obsolete as soon as it was built (F-head, ross steering, etc). By now, we are driving bona-fide time warps.

I'll PM you about the 64 tub; a friend here on the island has a rotted out 67 he wants to replace the tub on.

    THANKS!

I'll drive down and have closer look. This is an original Dauntless powered jeep. I gave it a quick once over and it appears solid and original. Was painted tan or gold, don't know which. Seats are not original and are shredded from sun damage. Has a crappy roll bar. Don't know if it runs. If he'll take $1200 I'll buy it and use it as a platform for the freshly rebuilt 225 V6 that I bought from a member here. Will install SM420 or T18 and tidy it up a bit before driving.

I am still trying to finish the body work on my '47 CJ2A - when the body is done it will be as new...

I am a sucker for Jeeps (and Landcruisers).
